My wife is interested in buying a 40# center shot longbow. She has a preference for carbon shafts, but I know diddly about them. So I figured I would ask you folks if there is a spine of carbon shaft that will fit a 40# center shot longbow with only 150 grains for a tip? Her draw length is 28 inches.

I’d think the CE150, or equivalent, would do the job. At worst she might have to add some point weight, which would only add to accuracy.

For 40# @ 28″ you’re really looking more around .600 in spine. That would put you into something like a Gold Tip 1535. Personally, I’d contact Big Jim about picking up a dozen Gold Tip 1535 blems. They’re inexpensive, tough, and should work out just fine.

I shoot a 40# Martin recurve with gold tip 3555 sharts. Full length with 5 inch feathers and bear razorheads up front. They fly real nice. Keep in mind though that my draw length is 31 inches so full length works well for me. Might not be so with a shorter draw.
