I am going to be buying my first trad bow and i am thinking this one. The seller is Kpkpparson/KPArchery what’s your thought and 45# or 50#? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250563133788&category=20840&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619

Come on in, Barefoot, and welcome.

Unfortunately, those wood e-bay longbows don’t have much going for them and IMHO it would be a huge mistake for you to try and start with one. You can hardly even buy a good wood stave for that price, much less a bow. Expect it to stack badly, have tremendous hand shock, and likely to break before long. The $45 price suggest that you are on a tight budget. I’m afraid you’ll never get into a decent bow for that price. Rather, I strongly suggest that you save your coins until you have enough, at least $200 to $300, to buy a quality used recurve or longbow that will give you good service for many years and not beat you up every time you shoot it.

Other opinions? I know someone here was looking into these same e-bay bows several weeks ago, but don’t know if they ever bought one or not. Good luck, Dave

I’ll second David’s reply. About a year ago, and against my better judgement, I bought a bow through EBay. When it arrived I checked it out and it appeared to be okay. Got it strung, figured a nocking point and took it to the range. It shot okay for about a dozen arrows. I hung it on an the bow rack and as I walked to the target to get my arrows I heard a sickening ripping kind of sound. Could not figure out what it was. Then when I returned with my arrows I saw that the lower limb had simply failed and the bow was ruined. Never again will I buy a bow unless I have actually touched and shot it.

I didn’t figure it to be a good idea, that’s why I posted so I could be pushed away from the temptation lol. I currently shoot a self made pvc bow for small game, but am wanting a good wood bow for brush hunting here in Missouri.

What brands would y’all recommend, and long bow or recurve? Remember i am brush hunting in Missouri.

Hey Barefoot… I am no pro, just got my first bow a year ago. Went out looking at all the bows and all the shocking prices. The bow I found for the budget I was looking is a Fuse Intrepid. Its a wood take down bow. I got the 45# bow for starters. And the price was 239.00. I just found out the bow has relations with Hoyt. Cant find the true history of it, but all the tv shows that use Hoyt has the Fuse as advertisement. And all the shops that sell Hoyt, sells the Fuse. After shooting for a year now, I am grouping my arrows pretty good at 20 yards. Seems to be a good bow. But I am just a beginner myself.

What price range for a new bow are you willing to spend. I went and got a good deal buying off the Bob Lee website since they were having specials. i also talked to Mt. baker bows in Washington they were interesting to me but the timing was not going to work. There are a lot of great bowyers out there creating works and depending on what you are willing to spend you could end up with a work of art.

Take a look at the Samick Sage TD Recurve. I picked one up new on Ebay for 130.00 from Vision Outfitters. I’m new to trad, but I think the bow shoots great. Don’t have to worry about messing up the finish as it is average at best. Wouldn’t expect anything more from a 130.00 bow though. Best of luck.

I would go to as many shows and Expos that I could . There are usually lots of venders and top notch bowyers there that can and will help you . Even if you are a 1/200 miles away and have to motel it for a night or two, it is well worth it .

Besides you can shoot different brands and models till your arms fall off. You should surely be able to make some kind of a decision then . Bottom line don’t be in a hurry . Haste makes waste !!

Are you a righty or a lefty? We can keep an eye out for used bows for you.

I am Right Handed and would like either no shelf or a shelf on both sides as i have been practicing with a style similar to ISHI (Mongolian draw), but also shoot with a one over two under draw (Mediterranean draw). I recently found that Bear made the Alaskan with dual shelves and thought about one, but i like to support the common man so would prefer to buy from a bowyer.
