Does anyone here have one and are they useful for those cold winter weekends stranded on the couch with your squaw:)? Also, do the hides hold the hair over time? Any good sources known? I made some extra wampum over the Holidays and always thought about getting one but sorta choked at the prices last I looked.

I’m not sure if this is any help, but I have a longcoat made from an elk I shot in 1994. It has the hair on, and is still in excellent condition. The thing is warm, but also very heavy. I imagine a buffalo robe would be even warmer and heavier.

I had an old rabbit hide blanket that I had over the back of my couch, Indian made (probably early 1900’s) with the brain-tanned hide cut into strips, twisted then woven together, super warm and comfy… And, an old GF loved to cover-up while watching TV with it ” It’s so soft, warm and it has a “Man smell”… After I told her what it was and how it was made she never used it again hehehee… NYC women can be so clueless at times…

Was a number of decades ago, but a guy we knew moved West…came home around christmas in a ole van…he had a reasonably used buffalo (bison) hair on in the back of the van…he just crawled between them in the cold in the van and slept like a baby… He was of hardy stock, but he claimed it was wonderful.

As for price…I don’t think they’ll ever get any cheaper… they have been climbing like the National Debt for many years!
