Anybody got any familiarity with the new diamond sharpening stones? They’re the only ones I can find that will give me a decent stroke length while sharpening. And anybody got any recommendations on where I can get a good medium Arkansas stone at least 6″ long?

For knives, I use a Smith Tri Hone. It has coarse, medium, and fine stones on a three sided platform. They should be available via mail order from a bunch of different places. I did a quick Google and found them at Cabelas and Amazon.

I’ll second calling Ron at KME

Havn’t tried the sharpening system Joe Furlong (Tuffhead Broadheads) has, but I saw them at Kalamazoo and they looked pretty good as well.

Both of them hang out here and as the ol’ saying goes “shop locally” (meaning use the fellows that hang around here).

If you’re ‘sharpening challenged’ then it’s definitely the KME. The diamond steels work fine, but work with light pressure. With heavy pressure the imbeded diamond chips come loose on most of the steels. Among diamond sharpeners I like the Jewel Stik best; the diamonds don’t seem to come loose and the ‘fine’ side is really an ultra-fine. The smaller (5″) three-sided Jewel Stik can also be adapted to use with the KME system by tapping out the screw hole in the end of the steel.

Another vote for contacting Ron. In fact, here’s the link to the stones he offers:

And if you’ve never tried a KME system (for knives and/or 2-bladed broadheads), I can’t recommend it enough.

Thanks Guys. I’m pretty good at sharpening broadheads but my 40 year old stones are worn out and I couldn’t find stones locally. I’m going to order two new Dan’s Stones from 3 Rivers.
