I have not posted here in quite awhile, for no other reason than “real” work has kept me pretty busy. The article in the current TBM prompted me back.
Something I have been doing lately, and I’m sure many folks on here do it also; young hunter recruitment. My archery club has lots of kids, 10 to 18, who are pretty active. I try and spend a lot of time showing them the longbow, recurve, and talking to them about traditional archery history. Several age groups of young hunters have ZERO experience with our simple, traditional way of doing things. Once they hear about it, they are usually intrigued.
I give away a lot of stuff related to traditional archery…..arrows,quivers, books, magazines, a pocket knife or throwing hawk here and there….we all have a room somewhere that is full of things we have accumulated over the years. If you are like me, you will discover things that you will never get around to using again. GIVE IT AWAY:D Give it to some kid who is interested in your traditional gear. It will make you feel good, and it just might be the kickstart a budding traditional bowhunter needs.

I think it’s great when folks jump in and share with the youth.
I work with the scouts when the club lets the local scout district have our range for a day and one of our local archery businesses works with the 4H organization.
The youth are the next batch of trad archers coming along.
I enjoy watching a young’uns eyes light up when an arrow hits where it was intended.:D:D
We had a group of challenged children out once. I’ll have to admit that I was a challenged adult dealing with it but it was so rewarding I’d do it again in a heartbeat. My hats off to the people who help to make a place in the world for the less fortunate folks… Takes special people:)

Absolutely!! If we traditional archers don’t teach our youth about traditional archery or traditional bowhunting; then they sure want learn it from anyone or anything else. I was amazed at the amount of youth at the Compton rendezvous. Compton does an outstanding job teaching and promoting traditional archery.
Just seeing the expression on their faces during the youth events were priceless.
Keep up the good work. God bless
