Those of you who may own a Bear Kodiak Magnum, 52″, or those who once owned one and have a good memory — what’s a good brace height? While I don’t think it matters, for the record mine is a 1968, 52#, and I draw 28″. Thanks, Dave

I have an early 70’s 60# Kmag – it seems to prefer a brace height of 8 1/4″ from deepest part of the grip[I have seen recomendations from 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 – with most people ending up in 8-8 1/2] I draw 27″.

Thanks, Scout. That’s pretty much where I’m playing around, by feel, so your confirmation is helpful. I just went from B50 to a SBD FF string, and the extra bit of speed may be complicating finding a precise sweet spot. Or, the problem could be that I’m trying to tune for arrows that are just barely, with a crisp release, in the spine range. Looks like I need to build another half-dozen. 🙄

Roger that, I am tuned with “old” strings and Aluninum arrows
kinda kept the bow in it’s original{70s}format so to speak. I shoot it mostly for fun these days. It is not currently one of my “pursuit” bows —–might have to break it out and take it back to the woods.

I have a ’68 60#@28 and a ’69 black tip tigerwood 50#@28 and they are both are quietest at 8 1/4″ shooting the same heavy FOC Carbon Express arrows that I made up for my Shrew CH for the 50# and a similar but stiffer CE for the 60#.

My 68 bear kodiak hunter is braced at 9″

This is a timely thread for me. I just got a used Kodiak magnum, 50# and I pull 28″. How many twists can you put in a string to get the brace height you all are describing? I strung it with a b50, 16 strand, 48″, and I get a brace of about 7-71/4″. Can you safely twist a string down 1-1 1/2″? Still new to bows. Thanks

How many twists per inch are in your string now? I am betting probably 1/2 to 1 twist per inch, which means that you have room to add more so you should be good to go.

I use the rule that as long as the string doesn’t bind or knot it is not to twisted…my bow is 60 inches long and I use a 56 inch string. It works but I do have to twist it a lot. I am going to get a 55 inch string next time.
