So, I had posted pictures and asked for help to ID a bow I picked up in a trade last year or so. I was on the forum as Shotsome. Found out that the bow was made up from a Martin Warthog from around 1985 or so, and that the riser was a wheel bow. The limbs, still don’t know. Any way thought u all might want to see how and what I am doing to the poor thing.
When I shot it for the first time it was very speedy, but was loud, and rattled badly. Bad brace height, ect. In tring to tune it out back i lost one of the ball bearings, well this won’t do,,and me being the type of guy that just has to improve every thing,I decided to whittle on the thing. So here are some pictures of the riser, and the limbs, which where just ground down with a hand grinder, ‘haphazeredly’. Top limb first, bottom second, and the riser with the ball set-up, not good for taking apart in the wild lands. I think the strips of tape on the botton side was for tiller set.

So what is it that you are doing or going to do to the bow? From the first picture I would say you could use a shorter string to get the brace up to around 8″? Just because the bow has a bolt does not mean that the bow is meant to be taken down for transport etc.

Raghorn,,The fit of the bow just plained sucked, whoever warfed it before I got it just did a hurryup job.
It will be a take “Take-down ” now.

I decided to be done with the ball bearings,,and to insall pins to keep the limbs stable, not rotate on the riser. So I found some hard wood furnature pegs to plug up the the bearing holes which where to big anyway on the limbs. Ground out the bearing holes so the pegs would fit glued them up on all four mating surfaces. Letting the glue dry.
Bear with me as I have to reduce each photo size to fit the fourm specs.

So you are re-habbing the limbs that came on it to get a better fit?

Duncan, This was a riser from a compound bow, someone started to make it into a takedown recurve,,here is how it fit when i got it.

Ok, so I cut off the pegs, and filed and sanded both the Limbs and rizer. Check the level, sand and check. Surfaces are flat and ready. Located and drilled the holes for some anti-rotation pins.
