If the string is flemish twist you might get away with it . I wouldn’t ven give it a thought if it was an endless loop string . JMO !!:)

It’s going to take a lot of twisting to shorten a string two inches — far more than I’m personally comfortable with. If it’s a Flemish string, you can shorten the string by un-doing one of the loops and retwisting it at the proper length.

A few years back I got a Bear Cheyenne recurve that came with the wrong string. It was an endless loop string at least 2 inches too long. In a fit of laziness, I twisted it up at least 2 inches. It worked just fine.
When I replaced the string a year later or so, I bought a string that was the same length as the now twisted up factory string.
Then I learned to make my own flemish stings, and haven’t been stuck for a string since 😀 .

Steve Graf there actually has the way of it. Endless, Flemish, whatever, just get it together to make your own stuff like strings. Never have to worry again about waiting weeks on end only to get something that’s going to be wrong anyway. Kind of a pain and an expense to get stsrted but it will pay off pretty quick.
