Hey all,
I am sure this question has been posted before but I couldn’t find where it has been posted.
So, what are the best ways (and worst ways) to store your bow. Is it Ok to hang them strung (from the string). I see that Kittery Trading Post in Maine does that with their traditional bows.

NH — sorry to post when I’m sure others know more and better … but something about a 0 in the response box always prompts me. So, for starters I can say that I’ve always hung my bows unbraced and vertical on a wall peg or etc. — that is, the peg goes between the limb and the string. In the really old days, guys were hanging bows unstrung from two pegs, horizontally. But that may have been as much for display as for preservation. Back then and still now the one thing you don’t want to do is stand a bow on the floor, so that all the weight is on the bottom limb tip, strung or unstrung. And finally, in general a glass-lam bow can be hung strung for long periods with no problems, but never leave an all-wood bow strung when you’re not shooting it. Hope that helps and sparks others to offer their knowledge and experience. dp

I do what Dave said mostly because I lack the space to hang horizontally and agree don’t stand a bow in the corner or leave an all wood bow strung.

I agree with Dave P. That is how I hang my bows also, from a peg. I have heard you can leave glass laminated bows braced all the time, and know of several at the bow shop that have been braced for years and still shoot fine, but I still unstring mine if I am not going to shoot them for a week or so.

When I bought my used Check-Mate The owner said to unbrace it
when not in use . so I just got in the habit of doing that. My son was told that it didn’t matter so he leaves his braced. I’m happier with mine unstrung . Good point about about not standing them on their ends though 😳 done that! -
Just a thought, no damage can happen to an unstrung bow if the string lets go. It didn’t happen to my recurve (broken down in it’s case), but did happen to my compound a few years ago, in the middle of the night (up on the bow rack). Quite exciting.
