Hello
I’ve been watching your forums for a while and have an interest in getting into traditional archery. I have bowhunted for almost 35 yrs with a compound and am looking to simplify my hunting.
My question is are there any bowyer’s who can restore a Bear Kodiak Hunter in Michigan or will i have to send it out of state? The bow shoot’s well but has the stress cracks in the finish. Other than that it is straight and a nice shooting bow. Any help would be appreciated.Thank’s.

Dan,
No idea about there in Michigan but I am getting my Bear Kodiak Hunter done by Joe Lasch. I called him in the begining of May and he said that there is a 3 month waiting list. I sent him a deposit to hold a spot for me so I hope to have it done before September. Below is the link to his site. Good luck and I will post picks when the bow is done. -
Welcome here Dan. As you’ve likely already noted, us trad folks aren’t at all competitive and are as helpful to others as we can be. In this case I offer a strong second for Joe’s work. And he’s real good people too. But, for a second thought, depending on what the refurbishing costs you might be better off to keep the old Bear as a wall-hanger and buy a newer used recurve or longbow. Lots are around and often at good bargains, and gains in recent years in materials and limb design have made remarkable improvements over older bows. But of course, there’s something to be said for nostalgia. I have an old Bear myself, though so far I much prefer to hunt with my Shrews, which, at the same draw weight, are significantly faster.
