My grandfather recently gave me a recurve bow. He said he bought it new in the 70’s and says it was supposed to be some kind of Fred Bear. Bow 2There are no manufacturer logos, names, or a Bear coin on it. Just the draw weight, length, and serial number. Thanks in advance for any help. https://tradbow.com/wp-content/uploads/hm_bbpui/133682/cacurik06lmh969bwbc9mcvjbojkb1sd.jpg

          Hi Nick

I am not sure what it is. I am hazarding a guess– It sounds / looks like it could be one of the base model bows sold in the old “big box” stores (Sears etc). Could be a Bear, Shakespeare, or a Ben Pearson ( which is my guess). Maybe one of the collectors here on the forum will weigh in–

PS it looks like it is in fine shape – ought to be a good shooter

Dad got this Nomad Stalker 1 from his golf buddy years ago as kind of an ongoing hunting, fishing, golfing friendly testosterone exchange between the two of them, mentioning something to the effect of “if you can’t handle the recoil from that ’06 maybe you should try this thing”…. To which dad calmly replied that his son (me) would be happy to show him how to use it,  and that he didn’t want to line up against me at the range with that same ’06… His friend and found the recurve in a house that they were doing a demo on.  It was about to go in the dumpster.
I tried and tried to explain to Dad as iijave to so many others that I don’t “sight down the arrow”, etc…  ( Whenever someone asked me how I aim the bow without sights I try to use the analogy of pitching a baseball across the strike zone or hitting a rabbit with a slingshot, you projected there ). Anyway he never did pick it up that well but I  ended up bringing meat home to the freezer every year with his “inside joke”…
Fast forward now about 20 years. Dad is no longer with us, and this thing called life caught up to me and I kind of lost track of hunting with a bow and arrow – until recently. an old friend of ours stoped by the house and saw it hanging on the rack . He asked me if I’d been shooting  lately and it got my gears turning…. And so here we are stretching the old shoulder and string out once again. Im enclosing a few  photograph of this old piece as there’s not many markings on it. The serial number appears to be handwritten and I noticed one piece of work seems to becoming delaminated on the back side of the lower limb. So the several questions I would have would be: is it still safe to shoot in someone’s opinion what with the delaminationon on the lower limb ( mind you it’s just the resin bonded and it doesn’t appear to be any air anywhere else in the system”as it were ) (I’m starting to become kind of Savvy with my Composites as I build boats now for a living). I’m also curious as to the arrow-rest. I remember helping him install this one which seems to be a vast improvement over the plastic “non- flipper”that was on here before, however if there is a more suitable arrow rest for the style of bow I would be open to suggestions. Also the handwritten serial number, I’m curious to know if – between the pictures and that serial number – if anyone knows an approximate date of manufacture for this fine stick weapon. Any and all comments are welcome and appreciated, and being new to The Forum I look forward to hearing them and reading them and maybe getting to know you a little better. Thank you for your input.
