Hey y’all, This book has been out awhile (2005) but is an excellent read. “The Crooked Stick” by Hugh D.H. Soar, is as it’s subtitle suggests “A history of the Longbow” .
Mr. Soar tells of the use and development of the longbow from pre-history to current times. Special attention is paid to the bow’s use in war and it’s resurgence in the Victorian period. This is a great book, easy to read and understand. There are also photographs of old longbows of historic importance. Enjoy! andy

          Hi Andy*

Hugh Soar wrote a series of article, I think they were entitled ‘The Long Bow at War’ and I am sure that they were compiled into a book and as I write this I’m sure I have a copy I will find it out tonight and post the details. If you enjoyed the ‘Crooked Stick’ I’m sure you will also enjoy the other book.

          Pothunter.

              Hi Andy

Sorry about the delay, the book is called ‘Of Bowmen and Battles’
              # Paperback: 230 pages
              # Publisher: The Glade (January 14, 2003)
              # ISBN-10: 0951764519
              # ISBN-13: 978-0951764510

Well worth reading easy to dip into as each chapter can be read as a short story. If you enjoy a bit of history mixed with some believable fiction try Bernard Cornwells trilogy: Harlequin, Vagabond and Heretic, Azincourt is also quite good.

If you are in need of more ye olde archery tales drop me a line and I’ll dig out a few more.

Hope you enjoy some of the above, Pothunter.
