I’ll second G. Fred’s site and also Ron LaClair’s Longhunter Shirt. I love the Longhunter Shirt myself. Very authentic, WARM, and period correct.

Have not checked lately but Cabelas had a thick wool cardigan zip up. I have one and I love it as a layering garment. By itself in heavy brush it might get picked. They also have some with a tighter knit that might not pick as easily. Those are lined with Windstopper. I have the vest and I like it too. But as Clay said they ain’t cheap.

If you will hunt in brush G.Fred’s shirts might be best.

http://www.gfredasbell.com This will take you to the wool clothes but they also sell the GFA quiver and knives.

I recently heard a rumor that Da Wool Lady is selling through 3Rivers Archery. If I can get a link to that I will post it.

I find mine at Goodwill…..good wool can be cheap…very cheap. You can also get warm wool military sweaters for less than $40.00 online. Just use the google search. Most of the military designed wool is tough and warm.

If you must have a designer name, than of course you will pay more. My last wool sweater…100 percent wool, American Made, came from Goodwill, for about $3.99.

If my arms weren’t so dang long, I wouldn’t have such a problem finding deals too.:(

I’m with RickH and George S., absolutely. Not only can you buy for pennies on the dollar, many thrift stores benefit good causes, like our local humane society shelter for lost dogs … and new wool stinks. Just ask any downwind deer! 😀 Also, as one who does his own hunting laundry, I refuse to do cold wash, Woolite, flat dry and all the other wooly-regimen BS. If a thrift shop used wool garment fits you, it has generally already been well shrunk and will stay where it is for the duration. “Cheap” and “wool” don’t usually go together when speaking of new garments. Esp. if it’s American wool, thanks to the annual fortunes in gov’t subsidies paid to kill huntable wildlife (coyotes, bears, lions) on public lands to support an otherwise economically failed sheep industry. 🙄

Good wools never cheap but it will last a life time, my wife knitted me a sweater, seriously heavy duty before we were married (26 years ago) I’m still wearing it now literally. It even saved an old spaniel when she got hypothermic.

Never underestimate the power of sheep.

                                Mark.
