:?:Hey guys….I haven’t made my own wooden arrows in several years, and have the hankering to do it again. I used to use Rogue River shafts….I think they are Wapiti Archery now? Still the same high quality? Who else do you guys recomend?

Many if not most woody shooters are going away from POC due to the increasing difficultry of finding consistent high quality. Consequently, several other shaft woods, previously neglected, are now gaining popularity. Some are light for those going for high FOC, and some are heavy. If you’re lucky your question will prompt a variety of votes for various woods, including lodgepole. I have some footed pine hex shafts that I like a lot but are quite heavy, defeating FOC. But up to a point overall weight is more important to penetration than FOC, etc. The world has gotten very complicated since the easy days when cedar dominated. Take your time and enjoy the search.

I have used ash for years now. I get them tapered from Allegheny Mountain Arrow Woods.

“Wood Shafts Have Soul” – Amen, Brother! Nuff said!

Roger… I like Lodepole pine for 3D, Stumping and target shooting, mainly for there durability. They Last! Twig Archery carries Lodgepole Pine “Chundoo”, excellent quality and price. My hunting arrows are Doug Fir… they are Surewood Shafts but I get them from BraveHeart Archery, Braveheart takes the time to inspect alll shafts and I never have had a problem with straightness, matched weight or quality. Doug Fir is a moderate heavy weight among soft woods, takes to stain exceptionally well, and provides great penetration.
