Hi all
Its been a few weeks since Ive posted. My deer season ended with nothing more than a few hellos and lots of goodbyes from the same buck Id been after since July. JULY! 6 months of courtship, one release, one miss. Lots of fun situations getting real close to him and Im pretty sure he’ll be there next year, bigger (easy to do for a spork) and even more learned in the ways of predators.
I got my primitive skills school off the ground and currently have 12 students in the archery program. Ill post the website when its finished.
I was lucky enough to fill my bag with cottontails last weekend, 5. When I got home we made rabbit rillettes and confit with 4 of them and right now the last one is simmering in a spicy curry.
Its been a nice, productive month or so with lots of good fortune, for myself and the young buck!
And if you havent seen the cookbook Afield by Jesse Griffiths, check it out. Its a great book that connects the hunter to the whole local food trend.
