Yesterday I had an incredible encounter with two bucks while hunting with Steven McDonald. they came in at 8 AM and left at 10 AM, milling around feeding for 2 hours within 30 yards of me and as close as 10. I was well hidden, sitting in the middle of a deadfall, with the wind in my face and the sun in my back, perfect! I never had a shot on either the magnificent 6 pointer or the nice 4… and 1/2 pointer, but what a show they gave me. I went back to Steve’s secret, magical place this morning, alone, but this time I saw nothing. I decided to finish the day hunting on the mountain directly behind my house. Here are a few pictures of this morning, face camo and all, the sunrise in Fahnestock State Park taken from my ground blind. A beautiful sunset from the top of “my” mountain ended this memorable season with fireworks in the sky, the Hudson River down below, and West Point across the river. I was totally blessed this year! I saw so much and learned so much everytime I went in the woods, alone or with friends, filled a tag early on, and even helped a friend kill his first deer.
        I’m so lucky.

Ah! Glad you went back! I thinking about you today going back for one last shot (pun intended,) and the sunset when I left work today For the first full day of winter and last day of any deer season… that was a gorgeous sunset today!

Glad you had a great experience. It was my privilege to share with you. Made the hunt that much better.

Hey Alex — Great to see you relaxing with good hunts after all those months slaving over “Going Home.” We just gave it a second listen tonight and it’s soaking into the ears and seeping into heart real good! All my favorite, most meaningful and lasting music (like books and friends) has grown on me gradually — while the flash-bang stuff was mere passing entertainment. You do great work, making the world a happier place, brother music! Not a bad bowhunter, either. We just finished eating the last of your last year’s perfect elk in time to make room in the freezer for my this-year’s elk. Guard those fingers, Alexandre Bugnon, essential for both piano and bow! dave
