I was laying some hardwood floor for a gentleman and we got talking about bow hunting with recurves. I had recently bought a bear grizzly and had it in my truck and got it out to show it to him and he wanted to show me something in his old lawnmower shed. We walked in and hanging on a nail tangled up in a fishing net was a bear super kodiak. He said he used to bowfish with it back in the 70’s. It was covered in dust and dirt daubers nest(spell check). and still had the fishing spool just taped to it. I quickly asked him what he wanted for it. He didn’t want to sell it for a while but eventually gave in. I gave the man 50 dollars for it but he wanted to keep the spool. I got it home and cleaned it up and its gorgous and shot great and has probably the best feeling handle i’ve found so far. The best i can date it is 1970. Getting to the point…my question is. after years of setting in a barn the finish has got small cracks, its not in bad shape at all but would it hurt the value for refinish it? I’ve never refinished on before but was wanting to try it. Sorry to write a book

          Cody,
That sounds like a great find. I have a couple of old Bears and they both have small longitudinal cracks in the back of the limbs. It does not seem to affect they way they shoot. I have not refinished mine, choosing to keep the “patina” intact. I have cleaned them with Duragloss liquid polish though.

Yeah I will probably just leave it alone. I like the older look of it too. I’m not going to risk messing it up. Thanks
