this is a video fro one of my bear hunts a few years ago.

not only did i successfully film the hunt, but also got some amzing footage. When my tag was filled I spent the next night in a groundblind about 5-7 yards from a bait site with just my video camera.

Since this was originally made longer and i cut it down for youtube i cut some of the sound out as songs didnt line up right.

          Excellent video and beautiful bear!

That’s also one of the biggest sows I’ve ever seen, in the second video.

Hey, I’ve got a question and please know I’m not having a go at you, I’m just from another world where treestands are kind of unheard of, so I don’t really know anything about them. If you’re getting footage like you did from the ground blind why do you hunt from a tree stand? Is it for the shot angle or something?

Pardon my ignorance, this video just kind of sparked that question in my head. There is some good footage in there by the way.

              Jim,

Treestands also help to get your scent above approaching game. Also, most ground blinds that I’ve seen do not have enough clearance to accomodate the normal lengths of traditional bows.

Finally, as you saw, black bears are very curious and will often climb into the blind with ya:D

Excellent question! Etter pointed out great reasons.

I like to be as close as possible when hunting and on the bear hunt i was on i knew (from past hunts) that soem of the baits they establish dont have any good trees with good cover within the 18 yard range i want to be for bears. So i always bring a double bull groundblind with me incase there are not suitable trees as close as i want. That was how this bait was. no option for a good tree with good cover that would work with the current wind direction. So i set up the ground blind.

                    Jason –

That’s a huge sow!! Thanks for sharing that vid.

I’ve got a bear tag in my back pocket this season. Already had two within range in the past week, but both were quartering to me, and I didn’t have the shot. The one that came in yesterday morning was a big one. Gets pretty exciting when you’re trying to put a stalk on a bear that size…

I should retract that. I did some asking around and fella’s that run deer hunts up here use them. It turns out my ignorance is just deeper than I expected 😉

Cheers for your replies guys 😀
