I’m having trouble bare shaft tunning wood arrows. Does anyone have any advice to help me out . I shoot a black:cry::cry:widow kb 54# @ 28″ with a 26″ draw length . I’ve tried 50,55,60,65 spined arrows with 125 and 145 grain points and they all tear left when I switch to a 70 spined arrow it tears to the right which is to heavy . What should I try next I’m confused at this point I’ve tried 27 and 28 inch arrow and they both have the same results. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you Scott

I feel your pain. I could never get my woodies to fly straight when bareshaft tuning. I tossed my hands up in the air after 3rd dozen of arrows that I bought and 2 months later or cutting the arrow reglueing, cutting somemore, oh now the arrow is to short heavier points, lighter points, different shafts and repeat this process…GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRR…. I said this is silly I am hitting the target just fine and is getting a great grouping. My arrows seem to fly straight when I am shooting them with fletching and I had to ask myself what is it that I am looking for with the bareshaft? I get it to have perfect arrow flight and sure there is more energy behind the perfect flying arrow, so me though it was not worth the headache. I gave up on it and must say shooting archery is no longer a headache and is 100 times more enjoyable again.

I understand what you are saying . I have made several attempts at the bare shaft only to become frustrated .
Though I only shoot aluminum , and they are certainly heavy and stiff they fly like darts . If I maintain good shooting form and release I get perfect flight .
Most of my shooting is done in the evening . I have one area in back yard which allows a 50 yard shot ,having a dark background of white pines . My bright yellow flecthing really stands out ,and reveals no wobble in flight .

Ill try to help buddy. Start with your 55-60 spined arrow full length tipped with you 125 grn field tip. Shoot at from about 12 to 15 yds so that you are able to see its flight. dont cant your bow, shoot it straight up and down for tuning purposes only. While the arrow is in flight, notice whether it flies or hits the target (tail left or right) my guess is with a full length arrow you will initially see the arrow fly tail right. At this point cut an inch at a time and monitor its flight to the target. As you keep cutting in these small increments you will see the arrow correct itself and fly like a dart once it reaches its desired length. Listen to the arrow. I noticed you had said that your are looking at tears. Are you paper tuning or bare shaft tuning with a target only. I hope i was able to shed some light on this topic for you. Youtube has some real compressive video on this topic. Im currently having my daughter bareshaft some new arrows ive made for her. you’ll get it scot.. good luck
