Hello all. Brand new to the forum, and glad to be here.

Just ordered a 62″ Expedition from Nate. VERY impressed with the personal service, and guidance.

My choice is as follows: Cocobolo Riser, Curly Maple veneers over a Bamboo Core, black phenolic accent stripe on the edges with black phenolic tips. After sleeping on it, I asked Nate to make it a Takedown.

Needless to say, the next 8 weeks will move very slowly… will post pictures once it gets here.

BTW, have any of you seen photos of Nate’s personal 62″ Expedition? It’s a Takedown with Lacewood limbs. The limbs look like a Gibson Les Paul. Unbelievable. Nate is an artist as much as a bowyer.

Mudd Foot — welcome to Tradbow.com. Indeed, waiting for a new bow to be custom built is almost as seemingly endless as waiting for annual big game seasons to open … but when you get it, it will last a lot longer. 😀

Welcome to the forum, that personal bow of his IS a work of art! Limblover my son and Nate have become real good friends as they both are new fathers etc! he built Nick a 64in Expi Royal using the Lacewood on the limbs Nate used the leftover lacewood on his bow! Nicks bow is one of the nicest bows I have seen almost too nice to hunt with! I have a Expi Royal 62in on order that he should be in the works, I went almost all Osage with a little accent! I am like you can’t wait!

Nate used the extra Lacewood from my bow on his new one.

Here is a shot of it on mine to give you an idea. I love that Lacewood. It really pops with that glossy look. Nate’s bows all used to have a dull finish. I like a glossy finish with a wood like Lacewood.

Limblover, that is a fantastic piece! Nate’s work is very impressive. What’s the riser/overlay?

Would you be so kind to advise how it shoots?

                BTW, really like your blog.

Thank you for the compliments! I should have a new post up shortly.

I’m planning on reviewing my Expedition but I wanted to give it some time first. It’s a 64″ and a little bit different than the others I’ve seen. I shot the prototype 58″ when it came out and then ended up with the 64″. I’m not a fan of short bows. I thought I was getting a 62″ because Nate didn’t have a 64″ form. I was pleasantly surprised! I really like the added length! The bow is Cocobola, 3 layers of elm at the core with a layer of black glass, and lacewood veneers. Phenolic and stagg on the tips.

Mine is super smooth at 30″ of draw and loves a wood arrow. Shoots an aluminum 2018 well also. Its a fast bow. It’s between 187-192 on the chrono with an aluminum arrow. Not as quiet as his Royals but I’ve found R/Ds to be a little bit noisier.

Limblover, Thanks for the insights and stats on your Expi. I went with the 62″ as the longer length should provide greater stability despite my meager skills! Coming from a 58″ 50# @28 (BTW, my draw is 29) one-piece recurve to a 62″ 55# @ 29 should translate into more consistency. Even if its the same, the fact that bow will be exactly what I want combined with Nate’s woodworking and bowyer skills will be enough!

On a separate note, I would look forward to a comparison of the various bows (Hollenbeck vs Expi vs Bama Hunter?)that you’ve posted on your blog. Seems like alot of us are looking for a somewhat objective review of performance, workmanship, design, and appearance, etc. Perhaps fodder for the keyboard? 😀
