We see Bald Eagles migrate through this area every winter. I have seen a pair near here throughout the summer months for the past five or six years and looked for a nest but could never find one. This pair built a new nest this year right out in plain sight but thankfully it is in a limited access area. I hope they have many years of nesting here.
I took these pictures this morning.

Great thing for you to have there, Dennis, and thanks for the photos. Fingers crossed that no geeks with guns shoot them, or “wildlife lovers” with cameras crowd them out. Here in the mountains they mostly next in the very tops of tall broken snags, and are easily seen. Neat that you’re already greening up there. Homer

There is a nest near my home in Michigan. My brother was near the nest last spring and there was a dead adult on the ground below the nest. He called the Dept. of natural resources and they sent a biologist out to get the dead eagle. They did an autopsy on the eagle and found 3 holes through its skull. The pair of eagles was still around the nest, and they said this eagle probably got to close to the nest and one of others killed it, no bullet holes or other injuries, just 3 talon holes in its head.

Homer. The ‘geeks’ with guns is what concerns me with where the nest is. It is located right on the edge of a river. On our (company) side it is employee only access but the other side is private ownership and the sons of the owner have been known to shoot at anything and everything. The river is also used in that same area by lots of people who set limb lines and trot lines and run them at all times during the night.
We are thinking that the Ks. DWP may put up a restricted area around it. I kind of hope they do.

DennisMaybe a subtle note slipped into their mailbox reminding them that a criminal conviction of the ‘Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act’ is a Federal violation, punishable with both prison time and a hefty fine?

They are not uncommon around here (southern MD), and I’m talking suburban as well as rural areas. This year, they are having to harass them with noise to get them to avoid nesting in an area that will be cleared soon for a powerline (encourage them to nest nearby but not in the to-be-cut area); and the birds are resisting! We hunt and fish in that area, and have them flying and sitting in trees and on low limbs within 50 – 60 yards. Bottom line: bald eagles quickly adapt to human presence and activities. Fishermen aren’t gonna scare them into the next county, and might even train them to look for fish thrown back, or remains on the banks.
A restricted area might keep the ya-hoos from shooting them on impulse, however. -
Love the eagles. We have them at the local reservoirs, they usually seek the backwater areas where there is less boat traffic. There are always some nesting pairs and so far it seems people mostly let them be. The Audobon Society put up some blinds for observation and the areas where they frequent the most are somewhat restricted during nesting season. I have seen them on other parts of the lake while fishing. The coolest sight was seeing one take a fish from an ospey in mid air in a short aerial battle.

I see eagles around here quite often, usually around the nearby river and a few times around farm ponds. This sighting made me a little envious.
I got a call from my daughter one afternoon and she said she thought she was looking at an eagle and wanted to ask to be sure. She was sitting in her car at the end of my driveway. The eagle was sitting right across the road and she and her sister took these pictures from my front yard.
Headed toward the river.
