Backpack Seat

Is there such a thing as a backpack that doubles as a fold out stool? Something with a frame that “swings out” with a seat? I’ve lost any affection for lugging around tree stands and am happy with my seperate seat, but I have to sling it over my shoulder along with my daypack. Would be wonderful to have a combination of the 2 but I haven’t seen it in my rooting around the interweb.

I picked up one of those hammock seats a couple years ago and I’ve fallen in love with it. It has its pro’s and con’s like everything but for me the pro’s well outweigh the con’s. It weighs a pound. Rolls up into the size of about a shoe. And is very comfortable. The material is loud at first but it breaks in relatively quickly. You are dependant on needing a tree to set up on, but I’ve found quite a few of them in the woods!

Worth looking at for sure!

I keep thinking it would be simple to build one, but haven’t come up with a viable design. Let me know what you find.

Paleoman , I have built just such an item as you have described . Grumpy started a thread in the CAMPFIRE FORUMS titled NOT GONNA WORK . It is on page 3 I think . There are two photos of my backpack seat , which I have named the GROUND HUNTERS PACK/SEAT. The first pic shows it in the seat position which is used by removing the pack ,,,flip it upsidedown and lean it against a tree , stump , log , large rock etc.

Under 6 lbs. empty ,I have a 100% cotton daybag on the frame .

There are some camping type chairs out there, most are to small and un-comfortable or have arms that arent good for bow hunting off of though, maybe find one you can cut/bend the arms out of the way??? Good Luck…

Mike – I like light too and if it’s bigger than a small day pack it’s more than I’d want. Sounds like it is?

Nope its the size of a regular backpack external frame–actually that is what it is. Designed for bow hunters, I hung my day pack on it and it works great. You could pack out a deer no sweat with it. Comfortable—well I went to sleep in it but that is not a hard thing to do for jar-heads. Can send it to you for a look see. Don’t think the guy makes them any more. Let me know at that other e-mail with your address if you wanna give it a

try. Think I payed like $100 for it- you can have it for half that.

I just found the ole foam seat more versatile and easier to move around with.

If all else fails, check out companies that sell target archery equipment. I know I’ve seen several backpack/stool combinations at larger target events.

I used to have something I think was called a “Maine Lounger” perhaps you could search for that.

NOT a pack frame, but it was light, and easy to carry after I put a strap on it.

I too have a hammock seat and I agree it is really nice. It is very comfortable and Col Mike, I have slept in it too! 😉

I agree it does have its limitations but it is a very nice product and I am very happy with it

I know they make seat pads that you place on the ground for turkey hunting, but you mentioned you wanted a stool type.

There are also the tripod style seats that fold up to about 2″ diameter you might consider. The have no back to them, though, that would bother me.

Look up the seat which I think is called the nifty-seat. Its not attached to a pack but small enough to strap to a pack. I have one and it work really well for sitting against a tree and the single leg it is quiet and allows you to swivel.

I made a Torges seat and I like it. I was just looking at it last night and thinking gee how could I attach a bag to this and then I see the post on the Dr. Nordberg pack seat. Now I have to make one of those.

Right? I have been saying for a while that I’m going to make one. This winter it’s going to happen. I’m already thinking about a few mods I would make to it…
