Jim has asked me to pass on that he is doing very well. Spent the last 3 weeks in the field reviewing small unit tactics and weapons. His experience was utilized, by making him a part time instructor. He likely will be spending most of the next 6 months in the bush.
When he get’s the time he will check in with the forum. He is in the process of converting one of his classmates from gun to trad bow.
Like most of you I miss his intellect, humor and insightful posts. Let’s keep him in our thoughts and best wishes.

Thanks for the update, Mike! Good to hear that Jim is doing well. I miss his insights and wit as well. There will always be a prime spot at the campfire saved for him.

Thanks for the kind words fellas. I’ve been busy as all get out, most barracks days starting at 0530 and wrapping up around 2200. Not a lot of time to myself. Today was the first day of 2015 that one of my bows was strung.
It was a nice moment I can tell you. Even better when the arrow sailed away into a patiently waiting stump.
Hopefully I’ll get some more leisure time as the course goes on and I’ll be able to pest you all more regularly 😉

Hey guys,
I just thought I’d write a little update on what’s going on. A few days ago I finished the culminating assessment for the semester, which was a three week field phase of small unit offensive operations (recons, deliberate attacks, ambushes etc etc). It all went well so I’m lucky enough to have passed the first semester of the college now.
The only spanner in the works is that on day 1 of the 3 weeks I twisted my knee quite badly while standing up with a pack on. I stood there for a few minutes unable to move my leg thinking “Holy hell, I can’t walk.” But sure enough, I was slowly able to hobble off. I limped my way through the rest of the three weeks.
When I got back to civilization the physiotherapist and doctor both seem to think I’ve torn cartilage in the knee. I had an MRI on Thursday so will hopefully hear from the doc next week. Best case is cortisone injections and rest, worst is surgery and fairly long rehab program which would see me sitting in the college’s rehab platoon for 6 months.
I’m a little unhappy at the thought of surgery and rehab, but I’ve already made a list of things I could do with 6 months not really working and right at the top is establishing an archery club for the college. Every cloud has it’s silver lining, but fingers crossed the MRI shows I’m just a big baby and there’s nothing much wrong with my knee 😉
Enough blabber from me… I’m going to make a coffee and catch up on everything I’ve missed in the last few months here on the forum!

Glad things are going mostly well, and take it easy on the knee. They can replace them, but it’s never the same….

Jim, thanks for the update. Wish you all the best with your knee. Good health! Dwc

Good to hear from you Jim! I continue to wish you well. I said here before my bro graduated from the USMA and the opportunities he’s had after the military experience in civilian life have been crazy good (that is, if you can stand wearing a suit:lol:). All the best to ya, now and later.
