I am considering purchasing some anybody use these heads? What was your experience with them i just have some doubt about the convex shape. I appreciate any and all input.

Bone – I believe you are confusing terms. The Massai head is by ABS, who also sells the Ashby head. There is only one ABS Ashby head and the Doc would not approve of the convex design. I personally won’t shoot anything but straight-edged heads as concave has never come out well in Ashby’s rigorous testing, and convex heads tend to sharpen unevenly, seeking flatness, and too easily become unbalanced from side to side. And a reminder that while Ashby gave ABS permission to use his name on a head — a mistake, because it causes all kinds of confusion and unfounded attacks on Ed as “commercial — Ashby doesn’t get a penny from sales and has never taken anything free, even for testing. Even the pay for his TBM articles goes straight to charity and never crosses his palms. If you want a really heavy, virtually indestructible head, go with the ABS Ashby. My take, dave

I apologize for my ignorance. When i talked to ABS awhile back the lady i spoke to on phone confused me of the relation i guess. Thanks Dave for the correction. I personally do prefer a bh of a straight edge design. I should be receiving new bow in couple weeks looking at deferent bh options for this new setup.

              Bone,

I’ve never handled the Maasai heads, so I can’t speak to them in particular. But with respect to convex blades; some of the most time tested broadheads around have/had this feature — Zwickey Eskimos, Ace Standards, and of course, the Razorheads invented by Fred Bear just to name three. I’ve used two of those particular heads (Zwickey and Ace) for over a decade. They sharpen easily and have performed flawlessly.

And they won’t set you back $30 a head either. 😉

The reason for this topic i had purchased the Sheepeater Shaman 3pc td from Blackmountain/Dryad bows. The bow will be a 56″ 55# @ my 30″ draw. I plan on using axis fullmetaljackets arrows that i use for my other trad bows. This bow is the lightess poudage yet. I know i will have go with lighter spine than my heavier bows trying to get a bh in mind to use. Again thank you all for your advice.

$30 a head! For that price it had better skin and gut the Deer when its done killing it.
Seriously though I think if it is what your interested in you should give them a try. I am a bit of a broadhead nut and at any one time will be shooting Ace, Zwickey, Magnus, Zephyr, Snuffers, Woodsmens, etc. I just can’t choose. So I say give them a go and hopefully they will work for you. If not you could always sell them and buy a new car .
