Hi Guys
I’m new to recurves (been shooting compounds 30 years). Recently got Widow PMAII 50#@28in. Shooting MFX 400 cut to 30″ which shoot well (to me at least) with 145-150 gr head (75gr HIT installed) and 5″ left helical.
I did not bare shaft tune (didn’t know what it was at that point, barely know now).Just picked up Griz Stick Alaskans which I tried ot shoot bare shaft tfirst and they shot w/ nock pointing left out of target…
WHat now??? Should I fletch them and try again? By playing with these assume will screw up my MFX?
Any and all thoughts/advice appreciated…

If your arrow nock goes left out of the bow that means the arrows are spined to weak. you can shorten your arrow, if possible, that will stiffin them up, or you can build up the side wall of your arrow shelf.
I would suggest you take the fletchings off one of the MFX shafts and see how they shoot. If nock goes left theyre too weak if it goes right its to stiff, supposing you are a right handed shooter…

I struggled with this whole arrow tuning thing when I started a few years ago . If you go onto the Alaska bowhunting site there is an excellent article On arrow tuning that you can download . I found even some of the experienced guys around don’t really have a good grasp of arrow dynamics . This info will make it simple for you .

More info , Go to Alaska bowhunting [ the grizzly stik people] click on tech Tips at the top of the page. then scroll down past a whole bunch of good stuff till you get to one titled ” Tuning and matching arrows . Read it or print it ,and take it out to the back yard. Good luck.

Thanks guys
I just shot my MFX, 30″ 400 with 145g r tips 5 in left helical and MFX bare shafts … They grouped all together, I’m thrilled about that… also shot well with 150gr Magnus Stinger 2 blades.
Now for the Griz Stiks? I’ll go on the site and see what they say about how I can get them to tune….
I’m open to any and all ideas….

Smithy,
I shoot a Bear Grizzly 50# at my draw which is 28″…give or take a quarter inch if my anchor floats that day:(. I cut my alaskans to 29&1/4 to bring the nock in line with the feathered arrows (with a 125 gr. tip) and my nock point is at 1/2 inch above 90 degrees. I’m sure Garett @ ABS will give you hand or one of the tech guys. They were very helpful and patient with me. Good luck and let me know if I can help further. Their field point test pack is a good thing to have too.

One thing I noticed is that I could not tune my arrows well until I became very consistent with my form.
