I need to replace the arrow rest/strike plate on my longbow. Part of it goes under the leather grip. My question is how do I get the old one off with ruining the grip or leaving the piece under the grip? My bow is an Appalachian Archery Middle Mountain and believe everything is still original. Many Thanks!

          Eric,

You will either have to unlace the leather grip or cut and leave the piece under the grip.

I use industrial velcro on all my bows. Both for shelf pad and strike plate. Just peal the back and stick it on. When it wears out peal and replace with new.

If you want to try it you can get it at Wally World in the craft section or at most building supply box stores. Six foot box is somewhere around $5.00 and will make a life time supply.

Eric — I would leave the tab under the grip and not worry about it. You can always smear a bit of glue over the cut place to seal things up.

Troy — I assume you use the fuzzy side of the Velcro, rather than the wirey side? I’m thinking about noise. If it’s quiet it’s a great idea. On my Shrew I currently have camo Curad band-aids for plate and rest. On my old Bear K-Mag the same thing but with a wooden match stick under the shelf “pad” which is not convex like the Shrew. Works, but doesn’t last long. If the Velcro is quiet I’ll put it on my Walmartian list, thanks. Dave

Thanks Dave and Troy! I had already ordered a new calf skin rest from 3 Rivers and was wondering how to go about putting it on. I just saw where the old one was under the grip wrap and me brain just hiccuped and was stuck. When I read what you two suggested I had one of those “Duh” moments. Many thanks you two!

                Dave,

Yep, I use the fuzzy side. It’s quite as a church mouse. I always buy a 6′ box and the first thing I do is peal the two sided apart and throw the loop side in the trash. Havn’t figure a use for it.

Yeppers on the Velcro, fuzzy side. I use pop sickle sticks, cut, whittled, sanded, split, whatever to put under rests or behind side plates. Handy little buggers they be. Can be used to spread peanut butter and jelly in a pinch too :0)

Another vote for Velcro ! Comes on Centaur Bows {where I first saw it} works great – long lasting, easy, cheap replacement.

I bought a small roll for under $3 in black and it’s now on my bow. Really good sticky on back.

The two inch wide Velcro ata walmart for 6-8 bucks. I cut the fuzzy to match whatever I need. Dave’s advice for the match is a good one! Get’s the arrow up off the flat surface,,Paradox clearance.
