I’m going to give it a shot for the first time this year. Been up in the mountains three times to scout and finally found some good sign.
I’ve killed several in Canada over the years but have never hunted them this way. Really Pumped!
Fletching my final lucky arrow right now in preparation.

I went back up to the area we plan to hunt today. I was bummed to find tracks of another guy scouting on the same trail, but it’s public land so what could I expect?
It had just rained hard so there was only one set of tracks in the trail, but the white oaks that I found acorns in three weeks ago are just starting to get climbed. There were broken branches and claw marks on lots of them. I was coming back down the trail and walking through a 3-5 year old clearcut when I jumped a really large bear from the side of the trail at maybe 10 yards. He or she got out of dodge real fast. I was tired after 7 miles of hiking but that woke me up quick!
I’ve killed a few in Canada, and this one was definitely 200+.
Really pumped for opening day!

We’ll have a fine time, brother. I’m just tickled to be heading to the hills toting a longbow again, and sitting by a hunt-camp fire. The rest is gravy….

Im actually banned from that site. I cant get along with the type of people on there. Especially the coyote eradicators who actually know nothing about the ecology of the lands they hunt and probably couldnt id ten songbirds if they had to. There are some super people on there, but the average poster makes me fear the future of our lifestyles

I hear ya I just weed thru that type of crap.
I do enjoy the trad section on there.
But there are a couple of knuckle heads that lurk around.
Good luck this season.

I may be able to head up soon after lunch. Please have a fire kindled and an adult beverage ready for me. Thanks, compadre.:P

Good luck boys. I’ll be thinking about you from the edge of my peanut field nestled in a water oak waiting on a whitetail.

We did not carry any bears out but we did really really well. It was probably my favorite hunt of my life. I killed a big sow pig the first day with my damon howatt monterey and I shot a nice bear this morning with my samick red stag. Sadly, the bear was quartering away more sharply than I thought and the arrow only went under the skin and into the shoulder. The blood gave up after about 600-700 yards and I’m sure it will survive. It was the fifth bear I had seen in one hour!
My best good friend, Joe, saw two and let a small one go this morning. It was awesome. I’ll try to do a “hunt-a-long” thread tomorrow. We walked in 3.5 miles to our area and we probably had 5000 acres to ourselves. It was amazing!

Congrats on the hunt. Can’t wait to see some pics of that big sow. 😀

Also, we did the pig the easy way and packed out about 50lbs of excellent meat. I rolled the carcass off of the trail and by the next morning it was long gone. There was actually a bear just leaving from feeding on it when I slipped past it at daylight to get to my tree.

Great pictures as always. Hogs, bear, trout, who could ask for more?

Great pics! Ecspecially of the pig, I swear I almost wept tears of envy. I’d trade my Moose tag for a crack at free range piggies like that any day…

Wow! We mostly consider them a royal nuisance down here. Albeit a tasty nuisance

I understand what you mean, and I wish I could explain my desire but I can’t. I think the best I can do is say that my love for wild pigs is like the love David Peterson has for Elk, and the Wensel brothers have for Whitetails.
Gonna have to move to Georgia…

Thanks. It happens, especially with bears. I’ve hunted them a lot in canada and it’s amazing how tough they are when not double lunged and how terrible a blood trail they leave.
That was a real good one you killed.

To be honest, I didn’t know you guys had bears down there.
I’ve killed a few up here in Ontario though !
I’ve killed several in quebec and been up there fifteen times to hunt them so I have a bit of experience with em. All that said, I would bet that certain areas of North Ga have the highest density of black bears of anywhere in north america. I never would have believed it either but now I’ve seen nine in six hours of hunting

Awesome pig brother !! Sounds like you had a good time, even if no bears came home with you. Sounds like the numbers are pretty good though. To be honest, I didn’t even know you had bears down there.

Nice pig and great pics too. Hope to see a Georgia bear pic post soon on this thread. Thanks for sharing your hunt with us.
