Was reading the thread about string makers and I would like to know the difference between the FAST FLIGHT and D97 flemish twist strings.
A D97 flemish string came with my Super Kodiak . It really looks sharp on the bow . Also gained 6 fps in velocity. But, for the life of me , I cannot get it quiet . Having tried numerous materials ,,,,,gone through the full range of brace height , it sounds like a cross between a BASS FIDDLE and a DRUM. It is actually the most quiet without silencers , but is still as loud as a cheap xbow.
I also checked the 3 Rivers catalog and it doesn’t carry the D97 string . Is it inferior material ?
So for now I’m back with the homegrown B-50 endless loop which is super quiet ,,,,,,,,,,,,IT JUST AIN’T AS PURTY AS THE FLEMISH.

As I understand it (and that is only surface understanding) is that there are 2 companies make most of the high tech string material…and it’s constantly evolving and changing names…
I THINK the D in D97 stands for Dynaflight… and I had some of the THEN latest-greatest D10… made up.
Flemish has a lot of twisting in it as I understand it…and some folks make them sitting on the couch, watching TV… and they serve well… but what I did learn from hands-on is that any given 2 of such fabrication can vary in dimension depending on the amount of tension while doing the twisting.
I’ve had 2 identical strings served the same but fit my arrow nocks way differently…ergo, performed differently! 😯
I found a string maker that uses only ONE material… and he builds each string under constant tension…then uses harmonics to settle the strands tightly into one another eliminating all “creep” or stretch!
I’ve had his strings strung for 6 mos at a time and not a budge…heat or cold..SAME!
Rick Barbee is his name. In TX…not cheap, but surely worth every penny to me! I’ve had high tech strings, well shot in, change brace at a 3D in the heat…and now, no more of that nonsense!
Names of materials change. Availability changes as one “type” is upgraded and replaced with something else… some are ‘mixes’ of materials…others not.
Someone else will come along with details…
Rick can be reached at Strings@tradarcher.com. FWIW Or google Rick Barbee… Centaur bows and now Sasquatch bows come with them.

Thanks Doc for the education .
Also , I may not have been too descriptive in my post above . I have the flemish string shot in very well . I am experiencing no stretch .
I have read that the flemish string is quieter than the endless loop . In my experience if the endless loop string has too much twist in it , because it evidently is too long , the results may be good shooting but the noise level is high .
Not looking for an arguement by no means ,,,just like to know how to get this D97 string quiet or is there a big difference between the D97 and the FASTFLIGHT flemish twist string .
Thanks , Mark

I’ve made strings from both materials, and can’t really say one is vastly different from the other.
I stick with fast flight because it seems more durable and limp to me. The limper it is, the easier to make into a string.
I can’t say I can hear much difference between fast flight and D97. People do say B50 is more quiet because it is more stretchy. I’m too deaf to notice. B50 is way cheaper, but thicker and less durable.
I am one of those cats that sits on the couch making strings while watching TV (fred bear videos usually) but the strings come out well enough.

I haven’t looked at their catalog in years, so I went on their web site. They still carry D97 in 1/8# spools, although their price is a bit out there. Dyna97 is a great string material, and I’ve been using it for over a decade. With the release of BCY 8190 and X, a lot of string builders have moved to those new products. I still shoot D97 on my hunting bows, but switched to 8190 on my target bow.

Thanks gentlemen for your input .
I went back to the 3 Rivers catalog and found that several of the bows they offer come with the D97 string .
So there must be some QUIRK in my form , release or bow that is preventing me from being able to get the D97 string quiet . I switch back to the endless loop dacron and all is good .

I use D-97 on all my bows. It has actually been my experience that the D-97 is a bit quieter than B-50. It may be a hearing issue but even when I have someone else shoot my bow and I stand to the side and listen it is dead quiet with the D-97.
I know that there are other factors that help quiet a bow. I do shoot a very heavy arrow as well.
