I was recently sent a copy of the translation of a 500 year old text on Arabic archery. I received it from Mohamed Leach, a South African bowhunter. I’ve since located the text posted on-line, in a PDF file. Here’s the link: http://www.tuba-archery.com/article/arab-archery.pdf
It is a fascinating read. I’m always amazed at what was known about archery; technically; so very long ago. I hint though: go to the appendix and read it first. I printed it off and highlighted the terms and measurements in the appendix, and that helped me a lot with interpreting the text. If you have an interest in ancient archery it’s well worth reading.

“Another demands that the archer walk barefooted when he is picking up his arrows for shooting.
This is in accordance with a tradition ascribed to the Prophet, which regards the course between the
archer and his aim as a strip of Paradise.”
While I don’t hold most of this particular religious drivel in high regard, I thought that this quote was great!!

I’ve read part of it, the part about arrow makeup. Wish understood what the weight equivalents was. Can’t say I’ve heard of the weights given.
Still what I’ve read so far is pretty interesting.
