Hi, im new to the forum and fairly new to traditional archery but i absolutely love it!:D I’m looking for a little expert advice here. I’m on the market for a new bow probably a recurve but i would go for reflex-deflex longgbow too. I prefer a custom made all wood bow. I also dont want to go broke buying one but i still want a good bow for my money. I think i’ve got it narrowed down between a spirit recuve from sauk trail, or a recurve from Mahaska bows. I have heard nothing but good things about Mahaska bows and they are the better price. However i like the design of sauk trail bows too. If any of you have ever shot any of these or know of another good bowyer who makes good bows at a reasonable price (500-600$) please feel free to weigh in.

Hey guy I just found the thunderchild from Big Jims bow company, and it looks sweet! I was wondering if any of you have ever shot it? i hear they’re fast and smooth! So I guess now its between a Mahaska, a sauk trail, or a big jims bow. I Could really use some advice here!

Why get married after the first date? Go cheap, try different style bows, don’t spend a lot for a few years. You will find that what you want now may not be what you want in a few years…
Find a local shop and shoot some $75.00 used bows until you build up your muscles and learn what’s right for you.
You mentioned you want an all wood bow. The bows you said you are looking at include laminations of fiberglass. I thought I’d point that out to you. I would encourage you to stick with laminated bows until you get more experience. Then you can try all wood bows. The other good advice I’d give you is to skip the laminated glass bows and go right for the all wood bows. Now there is some real fine advice. I should run for office. 😯

Dittos on the Bama I own three of them, 2 D-styles and Royal Expedition 62in Reflex/Deflex longbow which is fast and smooth!Nate can build that bow from 60 to 64 inches with a any kind of wood combos you want, but as stated above unless its a selfbow or a bow from one stave of wood there will be some fiberglass! there are a lot of great bow builders out there that build customs in that price range, i would shoot as many differant bows as possible then make your decision!

Dryad, I believe still makes a couple models of laminated all wood bows around the price range mentioned.
Dryadbows.com I think.
That said, I agree with Steve about shooting several different bows at a shop to get an idea of what you are shooting well and like.
I’d vote for ya Steve just cause ya hunt!
