I’m headed to the Compton Traditional Rendezvous in June and was thinking of bringing my wife and three daughters. I have twin 6yr olds and a 5yr old. They don’t shoot yet, but are interested in it. I’m just wondering if there’s much to do for the young ones other than learning to shoot.

That is a good age for them to get started and I think they’ll have a blast at the shoot. There are three ranges and it’s non-competitive. There are also novelty ranges, a playground and tons of other kids running around. There is a river very close by the camping area. Food is available onsite (hotdogs, burgers, ice cream bars, etc.) as well as showers, ice and (I think) firewood.
All day Saturday seems to be kids day. Yours would probably fall into the pee-wee class where they will have a craft project and probably a bit of shooting time. Older kids will learn things like tracking, maybe a bit on conservation, sometimes animal anatomy, it just depends on who’s volunteering this year.
Dave Jarvis is the club President if you have specific questions about this year’s activities. His email is djarvis97@yahoo.com
I’ll be in the big tent at our vendor booth most of the time. Stop by and say hi!

Robin you covered it well. My grandkids love it and look forward to it every year. They come with their parents who also love it.
Four of my eight grandkids will be there with their bows this year. I am not vending this year but working as a volunteer and playing archer with my grandkids.
Girls and boys love the structured bow lessons for all ages. For those that do not have a bow, bows are aviable.
Compton ,a traditional bowhunters organization ,orients this event for the whole family I do not know any one who has attended this event with kids that has been disappointed. There are great primitive camping facilities for tents and trailers on the same grounds that the activites are held. This is a premier event with a lot of venders attending.
If you do attend take Robin up on her invitation ,,,,every one gets a free hug:D…,,,:DNo not from TJ:D,,, LOL
As a side note Dr.Ed Ashby will be giving a seminar on Friday at 1:00 and will be the key note speaker Friday night. This is one of the best chances to explore FOC and ask your questions direct
There is a free chilli and hot dog supper one night and food is aviable at the club house for breakfast lunch and supper
On Sunday activités continue. There are also nondenominational church services on Sunday for those wising to attend.

Darn it. That would have been doable–but that weekend already scheduled. Then I found it on the home page.
I guess some of us newbies don’t have a sense of all that is out there. Or know where to search for that info.
Mom–for us ill-informed do you think it would be possible or desirable to post the big rendezvous on this forum as a separate heading with schedule for a few months out for planning.
Shucks I’m gonna miss that hug.:D

Joe, T.J. would totally give you a hug! 😉
Mike, we have an Event Calendar on this site that lists all of the shoots I know about. It’s on the main page, left side under Resources. One day we’ll meet up. 😀

Thanks for taking the time to supply all the info, folks! I’ll definitely stop by and say hi, Robin! I’m very fortunate to have such a great rendezvous in my home state. Can’t wait to get there and learn a few things! My girls are excited and hopefully it will spark the same love of traditional archery/hunting that I’ve had most of my life. Thanks again, friends!
