Last winter, my then 14 year old son, decided he wanted to switch to a compound bow. I was disappointed, but I didn’t harrass him too much about it. Long story shorter, he’s been shooting his longbow more and more as of late, and decided to switch back permanently. Saturday morning he missed a spike with it. First time he’s ever missed a deer with a bow or gun. I was almost afraid to ask, “So, do you wish you would’ve used the compound?”. His answer was a firm and resounding, “Nope, I’m not going back.” 😀

Man if that does not make a father proud I don’t know what would 🙂

That is impressive! But the best part is just that he likes to hunt. You have the makings of some great times ahead. My 15 year old boy has hunted with me a lot, but he has not developed the true desire to hunt, nor has my daughter.
Maybe it will set in later, it is my only hope…

That’s great Patrick 😀 Ditto what Steve said too, it’s fantastic that your son loves being out there, regardless of what he ends up carrying in the field.

Absolutely! I think that not making an issue out of him hunting with the compound made a big impression on him, and truthfully, even if he hadn’t switched back to the longbow, I would’ve been perfectly fine with it, and he knew it.
One of the other things he said is that he really likes that traditional bowhunting is a community.
