Thought some of you would get a kick out of the arrows I finished up yesterday. Built them for OJAM (Oklahoma Selfbow Jamboree) this coming week and weekend. Might have to build myself a set of them…..

These are cedar.

Nice!
Is that a thick blade? I ask as that’s a lot of unsupported/unstiffened flat metal out ahead of that shaft.

The heads aren’t super thick, but are really stiff. I did tanto file the points as they looked like they might fold/bend back. I don’t thank you would have problems with them on whitetail, but bigger game I wouldn’t try with these.

Nice work, Derek! I note the “extreme” distance between nock and back of feathers (which appear short, like maybe 3×4″?). I have thought about fletching my arrows farther forward for more clearance with my face mask when I draw. Just wondering about your thinking in doing this, and if they shoot any different? Thanks, Homer

Very nice work. I’m working on some cane arrows for my self bow and I like the self knock and trade point. 8)

Homer Thanks! The fletching was mostly by accident the first time I built a set I wanted to make sure there was enough room for the rear wraps. I liked it so much both in looks and how they shoot I’ve kept doing them that way. Folks I have built them for also likes how they look and fly. The feathers start out as 5.5″ shield cuts then I make a tag on the front and back of them for the warp. They are right at 5″ when I’m finished. Oh and it is a 4 feather fletch also.
Steve it is an alcohol based stain called “Southern Pecan”. It is my favorite color stain and the alcohol stains will take on any kind of wood.
Thanks Duncan and good luck with the cane arrows. One of these days I want to do some, just haven’t taken the jump yet.
