Wow all I can say is Mr. Petersen what a great read .

That should be required reading for all hunters.I found myself stopping after every chapter to reflect on what was said and how it applied to me. The story by you on your hike in and the way the hikers reacted I too have had the same thing happen .Now to get a copy of A Man Made Of Elk .

Thanks, Paul. Even though Henry Holt,k my NY publisher was reluctant and my agent not enthused, that one has turned out to be tenaciously popular and still sells well today, 16 years later. I wrote only one of forty-some essays, but spent years collecting them. It was fun, and in some subtle ways it was a turning point — the first time hunters openly criticized our own blemishes and made clear to the nonhunting public that not all hunting is the same, and not all hunters are alike. Don’t put us under the same big tent, etc. Dave

I just took your advise, almost:D.

I didn’t buy all of them, I’m just to cheap sometimes.

This was the article that led me to Dave’s good works and eventually to this site. When I read this I thought I finally found someone who could articulate how I felt about hunting, and what is not really hunting.

Dave, thanks for your good work, important words. dwc

ps. you can order the issue and complete article here for $7, postage in the US included.

Interesting that we don’t always find what we’re looking for in the places we think we’ll find it. True? dwc

I’m glad we have one in our ranks that can put the thoughts and feelings that many of us think and feel out to the world. The ability to express in written words in an articulate manner is a blessing. David’s words are sensitive when needed and sharp and to the point when necessary. I enjoy reading his works. Ralph
