I’ve been drooling over Robertson Styks for a long time now. It was getting to the point where I didn’t even want to go to their website anymore, my Styk lust had gotten so bad. But of course, I kept going back…

And then, my perfect bow showed up on their site. It was the length I wanted. The exact riser and limb materials I wanted. The proper grip I like. And the poundage was perfect. It was as though Dick had built my bow for me without knowing it.

And that was all it took for the lust to be taken to the next step – the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

          Bruce — you are a show-off and braggart! :P:lol:

Seriously, that’s a lovely hunk of bow. How about a picture of it strung, and/or better yet a picture of you shooting it? My first custom bow, oh so long ago it now seems, was a simple Robertston Hill-style longbow, at the opposite extreme from this beauty of yours.

          Congrats! Dave

Haha, guilty as charged, in this case.

It just came this morning, and so far I’ve only shot it in the basement range, but it’s quick, quiet, and sends it where I want it. Dick pre-tunes brace height and nock point before he sends out a bow, and it was spot on. Shot perfect, right out of the box. Looking forward to getting outside with it once winter begins to wane a little. But for now, here’s an indoors ‘strung’ pic:

              Congratulations !!

I really like the looks of the limbs.

                Smithhammer—-

Absolutely Gorgeous bow — great poundage — I wish I had seen it, I would have bought it myself – haha

I really like Juniper limbs [ have it in a Centaur] Who would have thought such an ubiquitus tree [ in our neck of the woods NM for me ] could be such a beautiful bow wood! I like the thought of hunting in my area with wood from a tree that grows there ——–

Very nice! I’ve always admired those bows.

Thanks all. I spent some time shooting it again tonight. It is so quiet, dead in the hand, quick, and an absolute joy to shoot, that I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do with my other bows anymore. It’s truly the finest bow I’ve ever shot.

Nice bow,Bruce…8) I’ve kinda lusted after Robertson bows for years too. I’ve got a friend who has been thinking about selling his Robertson longbow, but I’ve gotta wait ’til my “better half” is in a receptive mood for my purchasing another longbow. Good luck in hunting with your new friend,Mr.Smithhammer! Wayne 🙂

I would agree, good weight and length and the good looks build confidence. I think Dick installs the “Accuracy Package” on all his bows.

I’ve been shooting Stykbows, among others, since the early 80s. It has been my privilege to call Dick a friend for many years. I admire his ethics both in business and in field. Quite a family those folks.

No kidding. Dick must be proud as heck.

The profile of the Trad Out clan in the latest issue of TBM was nice to see too.

And I just went back and downloaded the 1990 issue of TBM that had an interview with Dick. That’s a pretty sweet feature on this site, and it was fun to read a 20+ year-old article about him.

Finally found the time, and a warm enough day, to get outside with the new Fatal Styk. Shooting it at longer ranges has left me even more impressed. I think I’m a confirmed Robertson freak. This could be really dangerous for my bank acct…

Beautiful bow! It’s truly stunning & looks as though it’s a real shooter for ya! I know that the bow is the focus, but what kind of quiver is that? I’m thinking of getting a similar one & would like to know the brand, how you like it, dislikes, etc.

Thanks. The quiver is the “4-Arrow Cherokee” made by Eagle’s Flight Archery. I’ve been very happy with it. It’s simple and very light, and holds all I need for a day of hunting. And it doesn’t budge at all once it’s strapped on. It’s the bow quiver that made me like bow quivers again.

                                        *bump*

A follow up, in which I’m happy to report that lusty infatuation has blossomed into long-term romance. So permit me a gushing review…

As elk season fast approaches, I’ve been trying to decide which bow I’m going to use. There are a couple bows that, for various reasons, I want to use. But then I pick up the Robertson again, and the decision is made for me. After getting intimate with this bow over the last 7 months, I can safely say that while there are still plenty of bows out there that I’ve never had the pleasure of shooting, there is no bow I know of that shoots for me like this one does.

Just picking it up, it fits in my hand so perfectly that I swear Dick took a mold of my hand before constructing this riser. But then there’s something more – something undefinable that sends a jolt of primeval current through my arm and to my brain and telegraphs an electro-cranial impulse that says, “we are one, my friend.”

And then I draw, smooth as butter, and hit anchor and pause and release and the astonishing power and accuracy of this masterpiece leave no doubt in my mind, as if there had been any to begin with. Yes, I will always own a Robertson. In fact, I just placed a down payment on another, because when you find something that works perfectly, you better have more than one.

                                        How’s that for a bow review? 😉

And here’s a pic from the Idaho Backcountry Hunters & Anglers rendezvous a couple weeks ago in Stanley. A sweet home for a night:

A great time and excellent folks. Good things are in the works for BHA. If you believe in traditional hunting values, please support it.

Beautiful bow and great follow up Smithie. I’ve got a serious case of bow envy right now 😳
