        Hey all

I have the amateur know how to build arrows and the tools to make my own shafts. Just enough experience to gather a lot of materials but not enough to know what my end product will be.

I was given a dozen cedar shafts. 23/64 60-65# spine. 375 gr +/- 10gr. After tuning my set up today it looks like just around 60# is best. Once I get close to 65# my shots are way erratic. Down around 55 and just as erratic.

So the question is how do I reduce the spine on these arrows? Im thinking tapering would be the best way though Im not sure where to start. 12″ taper? Full taper?

        Im shooting 225 Tuffheads.

        Any help would be great!

Seems to me that 60-65 spine shafts may be a little light for the 225gr Tuffhead, but if you’re getting good flight….. What bow are you shooting? I have some 60-62 spine cedars with 125gr. head, 3-5″ feathers which fly incredibly well from my 53# longbow. Tapering would, in theory, reduce spine but not alot. I ran your number through Stu’s calculator and dynamic spines comes up about 34#. Hmm, mystery.

Im shooting a 53# reflexed bow I made. Ive only shot them out to 15 yards. Seems like a light spine to me as well though being in so new Im not too sure of anything.

Ill download Stus calculator, that seems to be a solid program.

            Thanks
