Hey folks,
I appears the new fast flight string I have purchased is causing my samick journey to become too awesome, and now my bareshaft is shooting weak. Well, I shortened my arrows until they are now TOO short, and I have to switch over to some 150 Blue Streaks I had in the closet. It seems that, after tuning, I will be shooting 7 GPP at 350 grains for the 50 pound recurve. Is that too light to be ok/safe for the bow?

It’s definitely on the light side. A lot of manufacturers recommend 8gpp minimum. And certainly if you plan to hunt, then I would look at going heavier.
When you say they are “too short” do you mean that the point/head is hitting the shelf when you are at full draw?
-
Yes, the field tip is actually touching the riser, so I know the broadhead will hit it at full draw. I guess I could try those weight tubes to get the arrow up a bit. I have heard weedeater string works great too.

I’m not sure I would shoot a wood riser Samick at 7 grains per pound. When in doubt, call the folks at TradTech. They sell a lot of Samick bows and can probably give you the specifics regarding suggested arrow weight range.

Thanks! I will give them a call!

I hate to tell you this, but I don’t see a way around those arrows being too light for a #50 bow. Adding point weight will only weaken the spine even more. I think you need new arrows, compadre.

I would definitely recommend you go to different arrows. I recently tried to change out my samick red stag dacron string for a fast flight and my arrow flight went to hell.
I didn’t feel like re-tuning the bow so I went back to the dacron. My 55# stag was shooting full length 3555 carbon arrows with standard inserts and 200 grain heads.
I wanted to add more front weight to both of my lighter bows that shoot 3555s so I cut off two inches of arrow and added 100 grain inserts. Both bows are shooting them like darts, but I can’t get that fast flight to tune right with them. I would have to go to 5575s to get that setup to work.
For those who are not totally into wood shafts, I’d highly recommend going to carbon. The blems are very affordable and very easy to tune.

I’m not absolutely sure I agree with Bruce on this one …I’m not saying he’s wrong either mind you …but if you’re not gonna be shootin’ them, I’d looove to do some experimenting with a few!
