It’s pretty much indestinguishable from a store-bought pig, but with less fat. I killed three of em this year and made them all for family and friends. Nobody noticed any difference in the taste. I wouldn’t exactly call any pig a “game animal”, as I have no respect for them whatsoever, but they eat great.

I was really happy this year to kill three critters with my trad gear in three totally different ecosystems.
The pig came from the far north ga mountains in the southen appalachians. The buck, came from the southern coastal plain. And the buttonhead came from a barrier island.
As different as three places could be in our wonderful state!

Nice hat……8)
It’s been a good fall, and I have high hopes for a great winter. As usual, I’m dreaming of turkeys already, but Im awfully antsy about the backpack bear hunt next fall. Let the good times roll.:D

Put another notch in my beloved 1966 Browning Explorer with an eight-point that had snapped off his left side just past the browtine. 130 gr Stos on a Douglas fir full tapered shaft.

Charlie– Do you actually notch your bow? I considered it once, but just can’t bare the thought of intentionally scratching mine.
Here’s my first deer of the season, and the only with a bow so far. Ever.
And I couldn’t resist posting this squirrel. I’ve brought home a slug of these guys this year, but this was the cleanest kill.
Thanks for starting this thread, I hope it stays on top for a long time and gets a lot of traffic.

No. 😳 Just an expression. Though I do add the occasional nick, ding and acratch that serve as well.
I understand there exists “out there” a Red Wing Hunter with many notches that used to belong to Barry (Gene?) Wensel

Tough elk season for me this year, but these tasty morsels were in abundance:
-
jonking– What an elegant bow. Would you please post some details about it?
The bow is a Saxon, Hawk Model, pulls 50# @ 28″ and is 64″ long. The only place I know selling them is “Traditional Archery Supply”, they have a brick and mortar store in MA. They sell online at oldbow.com. The bows are kind of spendy new @ $745. I was fortunate to find this one on consignment at that same shop for about half that. This was my first recurve so I don’t have much context – but it shoots as sweet as it looks as far as I am concerned.
-
Jonking–That’s a sweet, streamlined, different looking little bow you have there. Can you tell us a bit about it? And congrats on the yummy cow! I too am eating cow this winter, “spoon meat.” 😀

😥 😥 😥
But there are 3 weeks left in archery season, plus next year. Having a great time. Slowly dragging the little ones out to show them what it’s about. Who knows, maybe it’ll intrest one of them, or both. [ BTW – every one of my hunts have been a success 😉 ] Be well.

God, I’d give up a lot of other outdoor pursuits if we had grouse in any numbers. I can count the number I’ve seen in GA on two hands and I’ve spent a LOT of time in their prime habitat.
Congratulations on a beautiful bird!…..and maybe the best eating bird out there too.

The deer was taken with a 61# BW PLX, 785 Gr CX 350, 190 Grizzly, and the Turkey with a 58# Schafer Silvertip.

Nice hunting everyone! I hope to add to this thread, going out Monday after a snow storm and cold front roll through on Sunday. Season ends the 20th in Illinois. Time is running out…
