Fellow Ashby students — Ed just sent us his hot-off-the-presses 2008 Study Update, which he’s been working on while receiving treatments for health problems here in the U.S. It focuses on further clarifying FoC, arrow weight, and the influences of each on penetration and lethality. I’ve read it, and the early part makes a good intro or review of those critical elements of the overall penetration and lethality formula, while I found the latter part a bit over my head. But that doesn’t mean many of you won’t understand it, because I’m a tech dummy. 😳 Anyhow, here’s one more step forward in understanding how and why arrows function and how to make them the most lethal in worst-case shots, which happen to us all, all too often. Check it out at the bottom of the Ashby Library forum. Dave

Excellent stuff, as usual! I quickly ran throught it grasping what I could at first read but will be back later to S L O W L Y read it attempting to grasp it in full.
Time to head for the woods right now but I do have more info planted to grow questions in my head while in stand.

Hey Dave, Steve, I’m new to this stuff “Ashby studies” but will educate myself through this info which has been “Benevolently made available” on this site. From what I have gleaned thus far, Doc Ashby is “genuine and only interested in factual information according to scientific methods” and from practical experiences generated in the field. Monetary gain does not play any role in his interest as he pursues this study. Now that impresses me! Objectivity lends itself to Fact. This gives him credibility.

Hiram, you nailed it, and anyone who claims otherwise is either misinformed or tragically nasty-natured. In any event I would suggest you start by readibng all the Ashby articles posted here from previous issues of TBM, which were edited specifically to cut through much of the scientific terminology and concepts to delivery just the useful facts in a way we all can grok. Then, if you want more, you can go back and read the actual study reports. I have been bowhunting at least 50 of my 63 years and never ever before “locked on” to any archery or bowhunt gooroo. Nor has Ashby ever sought that paper-hero status. But I swear, what I’ve learned from him about how arrows kill has changed my hunting life forever, and totally for the better. So, like any converted disciple, I and fellow Ashby fans feel compelled to share the joy. Ashby’s motivation is this: increase bowhunter success and ethical standing by decreasing wounding loss. Nothing more, and that’s enough! Welcome aboard, Hiram. dave

Well I think alot of people are cathcing on to Ashby’s stuff. I dropped the money and ordered a pack of the ABS Asby heads. they called today to tell me they would be out until sometime in December! 🙁 my new and improved Ashby arrows will have to wait for the finishing touches! LOL (BHd)
AK Bow supply are some great folks to deal with – cant wait to check the sharpness of that head. Will have to go on a hog hunt somewhere to try em though.

🙁 The last time talked to them, they said they’d be shipping to customers by mid-November. Prior to that it was the beginning of November. Don’t hold your breathe.
