Under the club i belong to in Calif. Traditional arhcers of calif. They dont allow string walking and longbows must shoot wooden arrows. I dont believe there is and restriction i can remmeber on rests or shooting off the shelf. Ive seen guys using the old bear style plastic arrow rests even on long bows but almost everyone shoots off the shelf and ive seen recurves shoot off rests or the shelf. I prefer to shoot off the shelf with all my bows it just seems natural to me.
I guess it really depends on the sanctioning club or association.I kind of prefer wood out of everything for arrows but do shoot aluminum occasionally out of my recurves.
what ever works i guess.
