Good article on the home page about heat treating trade points!
Every now and again I think about making some points. But then I think about everything you have to do to get it done, and that’s before even trying to haft them to the arrows… Whew!
Spending a few bucks for some decent broadheads starts to seem like a good deal at that point. Get it? “at that POINT”? Dang, I’m a hoot!
All that aside, I thought that article was a nice mix of how and why and if I ever get the bug (and can’t kill it) to make trade points, I will definitely refer to it. Good Job!

You pointed out some good points there Steve..
I’ve never seen much point to being too political, just be blunt and get to the point of the matter.
I tried making some trade points once a long time ago. The didn’t look bad at all but hafting them to be true with the shaft, whoa.. I got lucky on one of them and it flew like a dream for two shots. The second shot, I got brave and flung it for a distant shot to really observe arrow flight. It flew beautifully to arrow never, ever land. That’s that never, ever find place…

Yeah, love to watch those build alongs for trade points but probably won’t try it myself.

I’ve made a few by just cutting a circular saw blade out with a dremel grinding disk. No treating at all beside working slowly to not mess with the temper already on the blade. Sharpened up well too.
I made 2 and they worked well enough and I have no doubt would kill a deer. Real sinew is the way to go for hafting…natures shrink wrap. I used some modern epoxy also instead of pine pitch, but then I am not a purist.
One day when I get this shooting thing worked out I’ll break out the old selfbow again….. have a few staves curing in the basement.
Just too easy to taper and install a quality BH…..

I’ve looked at those points a time or two myself… Do you have a picture of your arrows?

Nice! Thanks for sharing.
How long did it take to haft a broadhead to the shaft?
