Patrick- Just have an order I’m about to send in to 3Rivers. Haven’t got their new catalog yet- do the prices go up!- but it sounds like they need to spend a little time checking Dr. ED Ashby’s reports and findings esp. since they seem to prefer the 3bladed vented Wensel head. Take a look at Dr. Ed’s post “Successful Failure”- think I’m sticking to a strong 2-blade.

3Rivers is way behind the learning curve on this one! I have proven to myself absolutely that my arrows fly and penetrate notably better with high FOC. Of course, the number of blades on a head has nothing to do with achieving EFOC, but only head weight. Yet I’m with Bert and will stick with “Ashby type” two blades because here too, I have experimented and seen the difference for myself. Sure would be nice if someone could gently educate the 3Rivers folks.

I wouldnt underestimate the power of a 3 blade broadhead. If you put a sharp instrument on the tip of a arrow and put it where it needs to go, it will do just fine! Dr Ashbys reports are not really downing 3 blades over 2 blades, his reports are just saying that for the maximum penetration a 2 blade is best. Look at what success others have had, Fred Eichler has been using the Muzzy phantom for a while, and that is a 4 blade(2 blade with big bleeders). I think that even if most guys would get close to 10% FOC they would be optimal. I think 19% is just more optimal. Compared to my own shooting system, I only have about 8% FOC. Anyway that is just how I look at it.

I agree on your main point (that multiblades work)…but as I read the Natal report I do get the feeling that Ashby “downs” multiblades…he has 50-64% of the heades damaged or destroyed as opposed to 15% for single blades.
Sorry…didnt mean to derail the thread.

3Rivers, if I remember correctly, owns the patent to the Woodsman head, so, of course, why wouldn’t they be partial to their own product? Just a thought.

I think that you may find that it is simply because multiblades have more cutting edges, thus more chances of being damaged? Just theory, I really dont know?
Edit: And Michael, you are definatly right:D

To be fair to 3Rivers, this thread has somehow morphed into a discussion about 3-bladed broadheads, but there was no mention of 3-bladed broadheads in that section of their catalog. FOC is only about weight distribution, not the number of blades a broadhead has.

Patrick here is where it morphed, lol.

Thanks Jesse, and sorry Patrick for derailing, also.

O okay:D, 3rivers is the best!
To Holten101, I thought I saw that they were going green and having the cataloge online in PFD format a month or so ago, however I just checked to see if I could find it, but I was unable, I would wait, they have not updated there website yet!
Edit: I was unable to find the new one(cataloge)! The old one is on there!

Ok, I was going to apologize, but if you don’t want me to, I won’t…lol. I shoot the Woodsman head, and like it. It’s a long, mean, slicing machine. I am planning to work on upping my FOC, and eventually switch over to a 2-blade, but for now, I like what I have. They fly like darts, and usually hit where I’m looking (which isn’t always what I should be looking at, by the way…lol) Anyway, good to know that somebody’s putting together a chart on this stuff. I may have to try and get a catalog, though I haven’t had any luck with 3Rivers or Kustom King sending me one, lately.
