I just got home from the 15th annual Ozarks Selfbow Jamboree (MO-Jam) in Marshall, Missouri. Sadly, I could only make it for the first two official days of the Jamboree (folks start showing up days in advance–it’s a blast). The Jamboree will continue through July 20th & 21st, 2013. If you are anywhere near it, I highly recommend going. There are excellent demonstrations on every aspect of making a selfbow, and the crowd ranges from folks who have no archery experience to master bowyers. It’s a special tribe to belong to.

Drawing a 125# English warbow.

The maker of the warbow, 58-year-old John, shooting. The man’s strength is impressive. He humbled all of us young guys who tried to shoot his bow.

His arrows are 1/2″ in diameter and weigh a quarter pound apiece. For comparison, mine are 33″ tip to tip and 11/32″ in diameter.

Some atlatlists.

The local fire department showed up to help keep the dust down on the road into camp. All the kids, including the camp Grampa, turned out to show them off. 🙂

GO to MO-Jam. I’ll see you there next year.
