I use an Arizona E Z Fletch for fletching flu-flu and standard fletchings. Does anyone have a way to keep the arms of the fletcher clean? Seems I spend almost as much time cleaning the tool as I do using it. I have tried to wipe in between arrows with acetone, but at the end it still has dried glue along the slits. Someone suggested I use a film of oil to repel the glue, but I have been afraid to go to that extreme.

I don’t have an EZ Fletch, but have you thought about switching to tape? After they’re fletched with tape, I put a little drop of Gold Tip at the front and back of each feather. That’s all I use anymore, and it works great. No messy glue clean-up.

I have never tried the tape, but I am game for anything that makes my life easier.

When I still used glue to fletch I would rub my string wax down the clamp before starting. When I’m done I just wipe the clamps off with a tuff towel. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work for the E-Z fletch contraption.
I second Bruce’s recommendation, the tape is quick and easy and the glue required is just a couple drops on the ends.
Good luck

I third the tape. I never tried the glue since I’m sure I’d have the stuff everywhere but where I want it. Been using tape for three or four years and it works great in all manner of weather, too. dwc

I have never had much luck with tape, since so many others have, it must be me.
I use the AZ EZ fletch, and try using paste wax on the arms before using them with the glue.
I use paste wax on parts I am gluing up to make bow limbs and they never have stuck yet.
I think you might be using too much glue, since it shouldn’t get on the arms.

If you don’t have any luck with the tape, I’ve been using this ‘arrow mate’ fletching glue by Saunders and it’s magic. I’m a messy, fat fingered bum when it comes to these kinds of tasks but this stuff dries into a rubbery kind of substance, rather than a cement, so any excess you can just quickly pick off with your fingers.
