Here is my application for the “Coffey Club”… Sorry the picture quality is not that great, I was using my phone.

It is a Java Man “American”. It’s 66”, pulls 52# at 28″ and weighs about as much as a filled helium party balloon. It shoots smooth and silent. You can actually feel the bow lob an arrow at the target, versus shoot one.

I am actually very unhappy with the bow. 😆 So unhappy in fact that I am already talking to Gregg about making me another “American” LB with a heavier draw. 😛 I honestly see that Gregg’s accolades on this site were well earned. I look forward to many happy years in the field with all of my Trad Bows. Be well.

Alex — If you’re looking for more speed, a long, straight longbow ain’t the best place to search. Check out one of Gregg’s shorter r/d longbows, specifically the Classic Hunter in the Shrew line or better yet its soon-to-come predecessor in the Java Man line. He’ll have a booth at Kzoo and I plan to be there. And that’s no application — it’s a membership card. 😀

Dave, thanks. I appreciate the advice. I am not looking for speed. I am looking for a bow almost the same as this one, but with a harder punch. Right now I am at about 550gr and 15%-20% FOC. I would like to go up another 200gr or so. I was really joking about not being happy. Actually, I was amazed at how great it felt to follow your arrow in flight instead of just the “twng-pnk” when shooting the 20 yard target. It was almost like watching a well-kicked field goal find its mark. I love it. To me a sort of analogy would be hitting someone with a tennis ball or a bowling ball. One is fast, the other slow. One travels flat, the other arced. One can cause pain, the other WILL cause damage. It’s the old theory behind the flying ash can. I would still put a .45 1911 up against the 9mm in use today. Now that magazine capacity has been improved in the .45 ACPs, I wonder why we still bother with the 9mm. Same thing here. I know there are many other bows that will give me what I am looking for through speed, but the “American” just fits me for some reason. I am shooting it and my “Crow Creek Black Feather” hybrid T/D about equally as much. To compare them is like to compare my son and my daughter. I just can’t. But they both complement each other and me. Now, I am getting “wifey” (so I guess the smaller “American is the daughter 😆 ). She’ll be the strong one who is less forgiving and will keep me in line more. Be well. Wish I could make it out to K-Zoo this year, but I know if I go, I will come home with more than just another bow. 😈

Alex if you’re really, really unhappy with it you might as well send it to me 😛 She’s a beaut by the sounds of your shooting analogies.

Wexbow, I was going to send it to you but the all the customs issues came up, and I wouldn’t want you to get labeled as some arms dealer / terrorist and be put on some list and never be able to make it over here 😆 . So I will continue to “suffer” with the bow. 😛 Hopefully for many long years. 😈 Be well, and when do you think you will grace us with your presence? I am sure there are a few of us who would love to take you stump shooting and for a pub crawl or 2. Might even get in a hunt. ❓ Be well.

I agree with Dave, if you want some more zip, then try one of Gregg’s shorter r/d longbows. I have two Classic Hunters made by Gregg, both 52 inches, and they are speedy. The arrow really zips along, all the while the bow is quiet, efficient, and without any hand shock. Give one of his new Java Man line bows a try at Kalamazoo if you are there, as he will have his new models out. If I am correct, Dave will soon be shooting a new prototype that is a slight improvement on the Classic Hunter.

I think that all of us Coffey nutheads need to get together at KZoo and have a meeting that requires big, medium rare steaks…:D

                    Jody,

Thanks for the input. I am actually ok with the speed. I actually like it. I just want to shoot a heavier arrow. I am fine with the 52#, but I just ordered a 75(ish)#. I love the style and the feel of the American. I am sure the others are every bit as good. I just think I will stick with this (and trying to find a way to explain to the wife why I have a 3rd bow and still no deer 🙁 ). As far as KZoo, boy, you are making it REAL tough. First is was bows, now a steak too? I am glad I live more than 10 hours away, otherwise I would be looking for excuses. 😆 Be well.

I live about 11 hours away, so there aren’t any excuses. 😀

Bows, arrows, and all sorts of trad bow craftmanship on display; good dinners, good friends, and sub-zero nightly temperatures…what could be better?

A bow hunt for Elk with one of our resident experts as a guide? Although, what kind of steaks are we talkin’?

                        🙂 😀 😆 😀 🙂
