All else being equal, in a perfect world, hypothetically speaking, and all that stuff:
You have two bows both drawing #50 at 28″. One shoots 160fps, and the other 185fps, with the same weight arrow. To get perfect arrow flight, will the faster bow require a stiffer spined arrow? It seems to me it would. You would certainly have different amounts of force being delivered to the different arrows even though the bows are the same draw weight starting out

Yes. Well…it may not necessarily be enough of a difference to warrant needing a heavier spined arrow, but the answer is yes.

Man, those are two fast bows at 50#! Unless those speeds are with 400 grain arrows. If you’re hoping to get one batch of arrows to shoot accurately from both bows, I’m with Patrick and doubt you can unless using carbon shafts, which are amazingly tolerant re spine compared to wood. dp

Dave – My original question was purely hypothetical. I was more just curious really.

Seems to be the key word here….if al else is equal, then yes, the faster arrow would have to be stiffer to achive the flight characteristics of the “softer” spined arrow.

You do ofc have the option to turn other “buttons” to achive the same effect: arrow weight, point weight, plunger depth comes to mind, most likely many more variables will do too….but that was not really the question;-)

                Cheers
