Friday morning, while standing (caught) in the wide open, I had a bobcat meander around my buddy and me at about thirty yards. She looked our way once, then continued on in a semi-circle until she walked on out of sight. I say she because she appeared smaller than the average male here. What a beautiful sight and one we don’t get to see close too many times in our hunting lives. Then, as a bonus, when we walked out we had a coyote slink out ahead of us; it was hiding in the multiflora rose by a small creek. Great morning.

Anyway the first photo is what I had on, the second is the black and white version.

George — Yep, the accidental wildlife sightings when we’re hunting often can form memories that far outlast the hunt itself. And I agree totally that red/black plaid is every bit as good a camo for all deer species as green/black or brown/black, which is more appealing to our human eyes. Just don’t wear it turkey hunting. 😛

Well Dave, here in Pa. we must wear 250 square inches of fluorescent orange while turkey hunting. Once we sit and call, we still have to have 100 squre inches that can be seen for 360 degrees within 15 feet of where we sit. Did I mention we had to hunt turkeys along with the shotguns and high powered rifles here….and Pa. has over a million hunters. Adds more of a challenge for sure. 😮

Been using Woolrich Red and black plaid for years, our family store sold their stuff for a long long time! Got mine in the late 70s have a heavy plaid coat and pant and a red/black Buffalo shirt mine are old enough to be USA made! Great stuff!

I still have my Red & Black plaid Woolrich from 1974! Funny thing though, it seems to have “strunk” a LOT over the years. Fits my wife just fine though and is still going strong!

Like the photo, George, especially the black and white image! I don’t have red and black..my plaid shirts are green and black, brown and black, and grey and black…and my heavy coat is gray and black…but seems to work as well. When it is still a little warmer, i have a dark gray and black wool pullover from Fred and Teresa Asbell that works well…..

There’s something nice about being able to spend very little money at Goodwill or dollar stores and get outfitted for the hunting season!

                        It’s a 1970’ish Carroll’s Gentleman Jim takedown.
