Any recommendations on the best way to package and ship a recurve via the post office? Thanks!!

          Takedown or one piece?

Either way make sure to use oversized heavy guage box and pad it very well with sheet foam or paper.

Also don’t forget insurance. May cost alittle more, but better to be safe than sorry.

            Here’s what I just did.

I shipped my recurve, arrows, and everything else I needed out to Idaho in a 6″ piece of drainage pvc (sch 20). I padded everything inside and capped the ends with sch 40 pvc caps.

I sent it via UPS and both end caps were smashed to pieces when they arrived. My bow was backed with snake skins and the lower limb skin cracked and delaminated. I was blown away.

Luckily, I had insurance on it and will be getting a nicer bow out of the deal!!

              Etter,

All I can say is “WOW”, but at the same time, I’m not surprised. My uncle worked for a while for one of the UPS stations back home in MT, and he said people are NOT gentle with the packages. In fact, he got sent to the doctor over an incident where a guy up above basically launched a bumper for a 70-something Ford truck down the ramp or conveyor chute to where he was standing. UPS, FedEx, and USPS are all notorious for treating customers’ packages with seemingly minimal respect or care.

That sucks! It won’t be going by united parcel smasher! I’ll use the post office. It is a one piece.

Sad story, Etter. A real heartbreaker!

A lot of folks seem to prefer USPS priority mail. It’s said the packages are handled less than standard mail, though I have no proof of that.

Overall, I’ve had great success with priority mail. One exception. They sent a package to the wrong address, which was documented by them, they lost it and they would not pay the insurance. I sent a bunch of letters and filled out all their forms, but nothing. dwcphoto
