NY Catskills base camp for the next 10 days! Hiking, running, lake swimming, shooting my shrew and practice on my 35 years old silent piano. The very first thing I bought upon my arrival in the US, at Boston Music Co. !!!

Alex, please clue us in on the “silent” piano??? You hear it through headphones only?

Raining here. Still very few elk down at this altitude but I walked into a wall of fresh elk scent last evening, 200 yards from cabin while stumping, and it got me instantly fired-up. On today’s walk the dogs immediately got into a sow with two big two-year-old cubs that have been hanging down low and don’t seem afraid of people, and certainly not afraid of two old dogs. Dogs were bad but bears were good. One cub went up and down a tree several times while the other stuck with mom, who stood her ground and vocalized but didn’t charge the dogs. I was able to get them away before any fur flew. They were still standing there as we walked away. I should have been packing bear spray … for the dogs.

Do they have campground bears in the Daks? 😛 Sleep well.

Nice! I’m all for fun, sun and comfort. Pics like that help get me thru the “black and white” season that follows fall.

No sound at all, just mechanism for dexterity and muscles. The lever action is the actual key on one side and spring loaded coil on the other. It was the rage back in the 70’s with traveling classical pianists. They all had this thing.

People are pretty good keeping their camp clean up here.

More pics! Lauren’s famous steel cut oats

Hiking. Sometimes it reminds me of the steep canyons of the San Juan forest in SW CO! The difference is the age and color of the rock

                        Sam Adams time!

                          Alex,

Great pics. Looks like a great time. What type of Sam Adams are you enjoying?

Campground bruins are the norm not the exception in the Adirondacks. Both my side (west, Old Forge, Blue Mt Lake etc) and east side ( Lk Placid, Schroon Lake etc ) and everywhere in between. Monday night buddy of mine and I at the only local Italian place within 35 miles (not bad but hard to please a Jersey guy 😆 ) and had a 20 minute show of about 2 y/o frolicking around the parking lot dumpster in back….he’s a regular moving from restaurant to a convenience store down the road on a semi-regular basis I understand …but DEC does a good job of educating folks. Hopefully they listen.

Alex – Man you know how to live! It don’t get any better then that.

Looks like you got a great camping partner too!

When I take my wife camping she always makes a few hints to go home a day or 2 early. I’m always hinting for a few extra days.

Enjoy your time in the woods.

We have a few Camp Bears in the Daks. I usually give them a glass of Tullamore Dew. Turns them into a Big “Teddybear:lol:”

Great camping partner indeed. That girl backpacked all over the Rockies, Europe and Middle East before she was even 20 years old! 😀

toasting bread! Hey I’m French, I need my toast and butter in the morning! What d’ya want from me!!! 😛
