        I got a couple dozen Surewood shafts around Christmas and have finally had the time to put some together. I’m waiting for more feathers to do some normal arrows but put together some fluflus.

        The wipe on poly was so easy and quick. Will be my go to method from now.

          I agree with the wipe on poly. It’s all I’ve used for a long time.

            I did the wipe on thing for the first couple dozen arrows. Then I sprang for the $13 dollar dip tube and a can of their dipping juice. Forgot the name of it… Works really well, and way easier even than wipe on.

            Gonna start turning out some more arrows in the next couple weeks. Hopefully these will be huntin-good.

            I like the douglas fir. Cut up a few boards, and now I have a lifetime supply. But I want to try some birch. Art and Saxton said Birch was Best.

            If you look at Art’s shooting scores recorded in Saxton’s book, I’d have to say they at least didn’t get in the way.

              I’ve got a memory that Doc Ashby told me that birch was one of the best shafts he came across for toughness, behind those forgewood shafts. Said it was a bugger to straighten though. I’d be keen to try it too, although the only source for finished shafts I’ve come across is 3rivers and they’re some kind of laminate. If you give them a go be sure to post about it!
